About The Cause

Celiac Disease (also known as Celiac Sprue) affects 1 in 10 people, worldwide.  Celiac & The City Founder, Sara Smoler, began her journey with Celiac at 14-months-old, when she was diagnosed as one of the first cases of Celiac at the University of Michigan. She's lived it all - from being told she could not eat at various restaurants for fear of cross-contamination, to eating notorious gluten free "foam" bread of the late 90s, to watching countless commercials, TV skits, making mockery of the disease.

Our Mission:

To Raise awareness and education about Celiac Disease or related Gluten-sensitivity, providing a community and an outlet of support for those affected by the disease. Subsequently, raising funds for the Center for Celiac Research.
